About
Hi, my name is Ron, otherwise known as Silent Bob. While I am no Doctor or great marketing guru, I am one of the worlds most sought after firearms instructors.
I am sought after not only because of the width and depth of my knowledge base, but because I am able to progress my clients along the learning curve, with sure results, at near light speed. I can do this because I have never forgotten where I came from, and I know the frustrations felt in learning a new skill, and because of these facts, I am able to communicate with my clients like few mentors can.
My background and my unique training methods means that my clients are the most skilled, confident, knowledgeable, and capable gun-handlers in the world… and they enjoy every moment of the unnaturally fast journey, as I keep the material simple, light and fun filled. If you have ever had any formal training in the military or law enforcement, I am sorry for you, but happy to report, you will not find the same mentality when you train with me.
None of us grow up in a vacuum, and we all had to start somewhere… Like you, I have had my ups and downs in the shooting world, and yet, just like you, I have never ceased to look for those little known secrets of becoming better. Like you, I have had my good days, and my bad, and I have been just as frustrated as you have been in the eternal search for the core principles of fast effective shooting. And just like you, I was let down with many of the techniques I had learned, especially when the reality of real life and the chaos of a lethal force encounter clashed dramatically with the prominent training philosophies and techniques that are so prevalent today thorough the firearms and personal protection training industry - from the local government levels, through the state, national levels, and in the private sector.
Doesn’t it drive you nuts to train with a technique[1] that has been developed by self-professed experts or a group of good ol’ boys back in a cushy classroom teaching what they taught a decade or more ago, only to see their techniques completely fall apart when their techniques were faced with brutal reality? I know it drove me absolutely insane to watch my “trained” skills slipping back to my bodies natural response in a high threat scenario, or find myself defaulting to a natural reflex under stress. I felt that I had no consistency to my techniques, even after more than two decade of competing, training, working, winning and teaching all that I had been led to believe was true. Sure, I could shoot better and faster than most, but I couldn’t get over that nagging feeling that it would fall apart at the worst time, because I just knew I was mostly training for punching holes in paper or plastic. There was no telling what the adrenaline dump would bring, except chaos and uncertainty, and I certainly didn’t want my training to fall apart in a violent, chaotic and rapidly changing environment. And it wasn’t for lack of trying, either — I’d easily dropped days, weeks, years and several tens of thousand dollars getting more “training” and having “pro’s” tell me how I had to conform to this technique or that method, and if only I would force my elbow down “…like thiiis with isometric tension heeeer…” Then a pat on the back and a “Great job, here’s your certificate! Now if you come back for a lifetime of courses all of your troubles will be over…”
Yeah, sure, I am willing to try anything if you say it will help.
Fortunately, I’m Not The Kind of Guy Who Takes Anything On Blind Faith
And I Gruelingly Vet All Techniques Under Extreme Duress Before I Take Them To Work With Me, Or Teach Them To My Friends
And searching out more people and their techniques is exactly how I have had the privilege of working with some of the finest operators and firearms instructors in the world over the past two and a half decades. And each and every one of them left an indelible mark on my life, for good or for bad, challenging my way of thinking, teaching new and better techniques and sharing decades of hard won experience…
- I learned how to present my handgun from a concealed holster and deliver hits where I wanted them, on multiple adversaries, with unbelievable speed, and never doubting that I would get my hits
- I learned that the reality of a fight is chaos, and violence, there is no tactic[2] that will work best in any given situation. BUT stringing the correct techniques together in an appropriate manner for a specific situation will gain you tremendous leverage in any situation
- I had learned how to take my rifle and get my hits on targets in under two seconds per hundred yards
- I learned the reality of violence is absolutely, day and night different, than what we have been programmed by society, the media, and institutions to believe it is
- I could confidently engage multiple targets with a submachine gun with ruthless accuracy and speed
- I learned that action, reaction and initiative (the freedom to choose your course of action, instead of being limited in your choices) are inseparable
- I learned how to make hostage rescue headshots with 00Buck with lightning speed and precision, and never touch a hair on the hostage
- By learning how to prioritize variables, my precision rifle became a true tool of devastation from 0 to well over 1,000 yards while shooting incredibly fast speeds
And most importantly…
I Was Not Only Able To Retain The Knowledge
But I Was Able To Quickly And Effectively
Pass That Knowledge On To Others!
And it just gets better and better! My shooting ability and teaching ability climbed to unbelievable heights. My clients who came to me with years or decades of training scars found their scars quickly and completely disappearing… My clients become absolutely focused, calm inside, while they become chaos, and hell on earth to their adversaries, reeking havoc and devastating results upon those who were intent on doing them harm. It’s as if they tapped into some hidden person inside, a confident and change-affecting warrior. For the first time ever, they start seeing conflict and violence for what it really is, like some veil has been magically lifted from their eyes…
But it’s not magic at all. Its seeing the reality of violence and life for what it really is, and once you see it, the cloud of mystery and trepidation is dissolved forever. And you are able to reason and vet ideas and techniques with certainty… You become self-sufficient and confident, and it won’t take you a lifetime searching for the “Holy Grail” of shooing… It can all be yours in an incredibly short amount of time, at a more than reasonable price, compared to traditional training methods.
Why?
The “why” leads into the “how” which leads to the method. One of the biggest questions we get is… “If you don’t mind me asking… what’s with the name?” So to clarify some of the above, I would like to take a moment to share with you the origin of O2DA, as the understanding of the “OODA Loop” is the key to understanding conflict.
O-O-D-A Loop is an acronym for the decision making process which was a universal truth discovered by the late Colonel John Boyd. It stands for Observation-Orientation-Decision-Action. Every cognizant organism thrives or deteriorates, lives or dies via this simple mechanism.
We at O2DA Training have created our unique Orientation Engine to harness Colonel Boyd’s powerful framework and by incorporating the Task Triad (the three key aspects that affect your choice and response options during any conflict), which empowers our clients to dramatically increase their survivability - not only in the realm of lethal force encounters, but it allows our clients, many of them for the first time in their lives, to see conflict for what it really is, not what we have been programmed by society to believe that it is.
In reality, all conflict is chaos. Chaos is unpredictable, ever changing, messy, disorientating and dangerous to those who do not understand how to not only operate within it, but also to thrive in the chaotic reality that conflict is. There are no set pattern or counters that one can learn, only the ability to function and bring your own and greater chaos to your adversary will help you assure your survivability. Understanding this reality and knowing how to operate within it is more important than any accessories that you can bring to the encounter with you.
Our outstanding Reality Based Training program, driven by our Orientation Engine, and unique training methodology rams home true reality and your choice & response options during any conflict. More importantly, it puts you directly into the reality of what it is like to be in your body during a chaotic event, where, perhaps, you find yourself and your emotions to be your biggest challenge. We help you see this, feel this, understand this, and most importantly, we give you the training and mental tools to overcome your own pre-programmed psychological and physiological reactions, so that you can reprogram the appropriate responses, especially under stress, so you can be decisively victorious.
Our training empowers our clients by giving them almost precognitive abilities during lethal force encounters, but more importantly, by understanding these fighting concepts we teach, most often opens a whole new world of choices and options available to our clients that they never even knew existed, or were ever aware that were available to them on a daily basis, which are directly applicable to their everyday decisions and lives.
As one of our clients recently commented “Without a doubt the #1 effect of the training was to integrate into my awareness the OODA LOOP. I have used that model/structure to enhance my business, home, and relationships. From this perspective your training is one of the Top Notch Business Training Courses I can imagine. On numerous occasions I have used the OODA model with my wife, both daughters, friends and clients. Just knowing [about this]has been an invaluable tool… Integrated with that is the awareness of how flawed my decision making ability is when the adrenaline is flowing… I am more aware of my everyday choices and am living more in the moment, more prepared for the next moment.”
To keep this simple, the decision making process, “…can be seen as a time-competitive observation-orientation-decision-action cycle or ‘OODA Loop’. Each party to a conflict begins by observing. He observes himself, his physical surroundings and his enemy. On the basis of his observation, he orientates; that is to say, he makes a mental image or ‘snapshot’ of his situation. On the basis of this orientation, he makes a decision. He puts the decision into effect; i.e., he acts. Then because he assumes his action has changed the situation, he observes again, and starts the process anew. His actions follow this cycle, sometimes called the ‘Boyd Cycle’ or OODA Loop.”
“To win (any conflict), you need to get inside the adversary’s OODA Loop (the decision making process). You can either go through the OODA Loop cycle faster than your opponent or you can vary your tempos and rhythms so your opponent cannot keep up with you.”
For example: when someone has a weapon malfunction and needs to pause momentarily to think about what should be done, or clears a malfunction improperly, he expands his OODA Loop. If someone has problems presenting their weapon due to the incompatibility of their gear, they are expanding their OODA Loop. When an individual presents their firearm sloppily and slowly (perhaps because he has a false sense of security due to lax times on a qualification course), he is expanding his OODA Loop. When someone shoots and misses his intended target, he is expanding his OODA Loop. This is so with the individual or with a team, as a team member who is expanding his OODA Loop is expanding the teams OODA Loops.
Many organizations and people over the years have tried to manipulate Colonel John Boyd’s OODA Loop into something “new”, adding to or taking away from his simple formula, always to the detriment of their training.
The decision making process is what O2DAs namesake, doctrine, and curriculum are based off of. It is our unique understanding of Colonel Boyd’s theory, the Task Triad, and its integration into our Reality Based Training that propels and empowers our clients to previously unattainable heights in such a short period of time. No one in the industry can even come close to achieving in their clients what we achieve in ours, even in as little as a 16 hour course.
We are able to achieve this depth of understanding which conveys lifelong benefits to our clients because we give our clients full disclosure on the reality of conflict, lethal or not, and we thereby empower them to make proper, “real time”, fully informed decisions. We do this because as mentioned on our home page, our goal is not to string our clients along for a lifetime of unneeded or unnecessary courses, but to empower them to decisively win a lethal force encounter immediately. The byproduct of this unparalleled training is our clients ability to translate what they deeply assimilate in class into their daily lives; truly leaving them changed and fully cognizant functional beings, even under the normally debilitating stress of a lethal force encounter.
This level of understanding allows our clients to handle every day conflict at a level that far exceeds any industry standard, and empowers them to see all the options before them, and then make the best choices available to them.
Kind regards,
- Ron
[1] At O2DA Training we teach that a technique is a thing you could do by formula. This would include things like loading, malfunction clearances, reloads, how to present, aim and fire a weapons system, gouging eyes, punching someone in the throat, using concealment and cover, “slicing the pie,” movement techniques, talking on the radio, and so on. A technique is not a series of movements or some type of formula intended to defend against something or a series of actions on your assailants part.
[2] Tactics can be thought of as the art and science of winning confrontations (verbal, physical, and lethal,) by the use of power (mental and physical) and maneuver; the integration of different weapons (verbal skills, hand to hand, contact weapons and firearms,); and the immediate exploitation of success to defeat your adversary. We cannot simply add judgment and creativity (art), to techniques and procedures (science) in an arbitrary and illogical manner and arrive at a sum called tactics. Rather, we use each to increase the value of the other exponentially when combined in a logical and well-reasoned manner for a unique threat, at a unique time and in a unique situation.
i. While O2DA does not train people or organizations in the implementation of the decision making process in regards to business, it is not a difficult mental leap to make, as the above testimony indicates. However, we highly recommend that our clients seek the excellent advice and services of vSente, one of the worlds foremost successful business authorities which campaigns via a proprietary methodology that utilizes maneuver theory to generate competitive advantage. The methodology is influenced by John Boyd and Michael Porter.
